What’s This All About?

The Backline is your weekly fix of Scotland’s loudest and proudest. Every Thursday we drop straight-talk Q&As with rising bands, must-see gig picks, and essential gear finds — plus the stories you won’t hear anywhere else.

We’re still young and only getting louder. Subscribe now and be part of Scotland’s music scene as it happens.

Let’s get loud.

Spotlight Q&A

This Week’s Feature Band:

Sometimes bands get busy, sometimes emails vanish into the void, and sometimes rock ’n’ roll just happens. Don’t sweat it we’ll be back with another killer Q&A next issue. For this week it's just gear and gigs.

Essential Gear

Why we love it
The E-Bow transforms your guitar into something otherworldly. Instead of a pick, you glide this handheld device over your strings and suddenly you’ve got infinite sustain, violin-like swells, and haunting tones that feel more cinematic than rock ’n’ roll.

What it does
It uses a magnetic field to keep your string vibrating continuously, so your notes never fade. Perfect for slow builds, ambient textures, or just making jaws drop live.

Best for
Guitarists who want to push their sound into new territory. Ideal for shoegaze, post-rock, ambient, or anyone sneaking spine-tingling atmosphere into their set.

Try it if you like
Sigur Rós, Radiohead, or just taking your audience on a trip they didn’t expect.

Gig of the Week

Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners - Wednesday 3rd September, Òran Mór, Glasgow
Colorado’s folk rock storytellers roll into Glasgow with rugged soul, blues, and Americana. Expect soaring harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, and the kind of set that leaves you buzzing and broken in the best way.

Best of the Rest

Heavy Weather – Friday 29th August, King Tut’s, Glasgow
High voltage rock ’n’ roll with grit to spare. Riffs, sweat, and a band that leaves it all onstage this is your Friday night firestarter.

Anchor Lane – Saturday 30th August, King Tut’s, Glasgow
Big hooks, bigger choruses. Anchor Lane are destined for massive stages, but this is your chance to catch them in a room that can barely contain them.

Rosie H Sullivan – Thursday 4th September, The Glad Café, Glasgow
Stripped-back and stunning. Rosie’s folk infused songs carry the intimacy of a late night conversation and will hush any room into silence.
